My Commitment As Your Next Mayor
NonPartisanship
Elected positions in the City of Canby are nonpartisan, but we see both major parties try to
influence our City's policies. Our new Comprehensive Plan updated Urban Growth Boundary,
and other upcoming decisions about our future must reflect what is best for us, not support
major party politics.
- I am not a registered member of either major political party and have not been since
before 1988. - I do not support them, and they don’t influence me.
- As mayor, I pledge to put the citizens of Canby first and the needs of our community
before the desires of the major parties.
Accountability
In presiding over deliberations of the Council, I will ensure that the following is considered:
- High Quality—We take pride in the City of Canby, and as citizens, we should expect to
receive high-quality services. - Affordability - We must recognize that every dollar the City spends is money our
neighbors didn’t have to spend on housing, food, transportation, and health care. We
must manage city budgeting and spending accordingly. - Equity and Equality - Every service must be provided in a manner that recognizes,
supports, and balances equity and equality for our citizens.
Community Engagement
I support a more active and engaged role for the Mayor in support of the city's appointed
committees.
- Most of the city's committees have yet to fill positions. I pledge to be proactive in
finding citizens to serve on these committees. - Effective citizen committees require training. I pledge to actively ensure that our
committee chairs and members understand their roles and responsibilities. - Many citizens are looking for an opportunity to learn more about how the City of
Canby functions. - I pledge to ensure that we provide opportunities for citizens to learn
and, hopefully, get involved in making this a better place for all of us to live.
